In the flavor world, some tastes are kind of bullies. When mixed with other flavors they tend to shove their way to the front, overpowering any other note in the blend. Mint flavors can be like that. Crisp, lightly sweet, sometimes a little sharp, on its own mint can be very refreshing. When mixed with other flavors, well mint doesn’t always get along with others. It can be a flavor bully. But if it’s mixed correctly it can make an otherwise ordinary taste really stand out. If mixed correctly.
Chocolate is one of those flavors that does exceptionally well with mint. In candies, drinks, ice cream, chocolate and mint, in the right proportion, make for a wonderful taste experience, sweet, smooth and refreshing.
When a mixologist gets that chocolate mint combination right you don’t want them messing around with it. Which is why I was especially curious to try Night Shift, one of the new Nine2Five Premium Blends from DuraSmoke. I reviewed DuraSmoke’s Chocolate Mint ejuice some time back, and really enjoyed it. I know that technically, Nine2Five is a separate line of ejuice, but it was started by DuraSmoke employees and is marketed through DuraSmoke.
DuraSmoke describes Night Shift saying, “Have you ever tried the after dinner cocktail called a Grasshopper? Well this is better! It’s sweet, it’s chocolaty and has the perfect amount of mint and cream. Amazing in the the tank and mind blowing when you drip!”
The American eLiquid Store website says, “Chocolate, mint and cream. What more can you ask for in an after dinner eliquid? Night Shift is an homage to the Seven O’Clock crowd. If you’re the type of person who comes alive when it gets dark, Night Shift is your bag, man. Creamy chocolate sets the stage for rich cream and a touch of mint that will take your mind to the classic after dinner Grasshopper cocktail. It’s sweet and creamy and just the right touch of refreshing, so you’ll never get tired of the experience of this unique flavor.”
Hmm, I pondered, another chocolate mint flavor, will it be any different, any better? The answer to the first question is a definite “yes.” That second question, “will it be any better,” is much more subjective. I like it a little better, but that’s me. There are some similarities, but the differences are striking enough that you’re sure to prefer one over the other, even if only a little or in certain situations.
The Numbers As Tested
Nicotine Level 60MG
PG/VG Ratio Max VG
Night Shift is a creamy, smooth, slightly sweet vape. Where it differs from the DuraSmoke Chocolate Mint ejuice is that it tastes more like a beverage than a candy, but again, that’s a rather subjective observation. The chocolate taste is smooth and rich, but not overtly sweet, almost like a semi-sweet chocolate, and it’s most noticeable on the inhale. The mint kicks in as you pull the vapor into the back of your mouth and down your throat. That mint stays relatively strong on the exhale, but it’s tempered by a light sweet cream note that also gives this vape a velvety finish.
The vapor is smooth, rich and warm. Night Shift has a light throat hit and a wonderful aroma. That aroma is like chocolate floating on a breeze of mint. The whole experience is quite refreshing, not too sweet, not too sharply minty. The mint taste does linger a little, as is often the case with this flavor.
Night Shift is enjoyable throughout the day, but especially satisfying in the evening, after a good meal with a strong cup of coffee. While it does refresh it also helps you relax. You almost involuntarily slow down a little when vaping it, to allow you to fully savor all of its nuance.
American eLiquid Store offers Night Shift in 15 ml glass dripper bottles for $12.99. Available nicotine levels are 0 MG, 3 MG, 6 MG, 12 MG and 18 MG. All of the Nine2Five ejuices come in a max VG mix.
I vaped Night Shift in a Kangertech Subtank Plus on an Eleaf iStick 50 Watt. American eLiquid Store provided the bottle of Night Shift I sampled for the purpose of this review.
