Since the Kangertech Spider Kit arrived, Kanger has released two other products in their AKD (Advanced Kangertech Design) series, the Pollex Mod and the S1 Pod System. We did a First Look on the Pollex Mod here. No word yet on the S1.

The Spider Kit contains the new Spider Mod and the second generation of the Five6 tank, the Five6 Mini. The Spider Mod is powered by an internal 4200 mAh battery (two 2100 mAh batteries in series) that’s rechargeable via the micro USB port near the top of the unit using the included charging cable. In power (variable wattage) mode it has a range of 10 – 200 watts. When operating in temperature control mode it has a range of 200 – 600 F and 100 – 315 C. The Spider can fire coils with a resistance range of 0.05 – 2.5 ohm. In temperature control mode the Spider can use Ni, Ti and SS coils.

The Kangertech Spider Mod powers on and off with five clicks of the fire button which is located on the side of the mod. The Spider has a fairly robust menu system. To enter it, click the fire button three times. The first option is output mode, PWR or variable wattage, or one of the temperature control modes, Ni, Ti, SS or one of the TCR (temperature coefficient of resistance) modes, DIY1 or DIY2. Use the roller switch to cycle through the options and press the fire button to make your selection. The next option is flavor mode, Hard, Normal or Soft. Your selected output mode and flavor mode will be displayed on the OLED.

Other options in the menu system include working time setting, OLED brightness and locking or unlocking the mod. To adjust wattage or temperature setting us the roller switch. The OLED will display your output mode, flavor mode, your selected wattage or temperature, a vape timer, resistance of the attached coil and voltage. The lower portion of the OLED is a battery level indicator. There are five bars on the grid, each representing about 20 percent power.

The Five 6 Mini Tank is a top-filler with a 4 ml capacity. To switch coils unscrew the base of the tank and unscrew the old coil, replacing it with a new one. Before vaping be sure to prime the Tiger coil by placing a few drops of ejuice onto the cotton visible through the ejuice flow ports and allow the coil to soak for several minutes in a full tank before vaping.

To fill the tank, unscrew the top cap and place your dripper or the tip of the ejuice bottle into one of the fill ports. The Five 6 Mini has airflow control at the base of the tank. Spin the collar to reveal more or less of the airflow ports on either side of the tank.

Like the original Five 6 Tank, the Five 6 Mini has a selectable coil system. It uses the Kangertech Tiger coils which have 3 0.6 ohm coils in parallel. There are three sliders on the base of the tank, one for each of the three coils. There’s an LED behind each slider. You can choose to have one, two or all three coils firing by pushing the corresponding slider to reveal the LED. When you fire the mod the LEDs will illuminate to let you know that the selected coils are being fired.

With one coil activated the resistance is 0.6 ohm with a max suggested wattage of 60 watts. With two coils firing the resistance is 0.3 ohm with a max of 120 watts. When all three coils are selected the resistance is 0.2 ohm and max suggested wattage is 180 watts.

What’s In The Box

  • 1 X Spider Mod
  • 1 X Five 6 Mini Tank
  • 2 X Tiger coils (3 X 0.6 ohm coil in parallel)
  • 1 X Replacement Pyrex glass
  • 1 X Charging cable
  • 1 X Manual

Performance: The Spider Kit performs as well as any of the Kangertech AKD series kits. The Spider Mod fires when you hit the button with no trouble powering those Tiger coils, no matter how many of them you have activated. The internal 4200 mAh battery provides a full work day of vaping and then some.

The Five 6 Mini Tank performs as well or better than the original Five 6, thanks to those big Tiger coils. They produce loads of billowy vapor and pure flavor. And the coils last a good long time, especially if you don’t use all three at the same time and alternate between them.

Features: The Spider Kit is packed with features, both the Spider Mod and the Five 6 Mini Tank. The top fill feature of the Five 6 Mini keeps things clean and makes adding ejuice quick and easy. The main feature of the tank is its selectable coil system, allowing you to get a very customized vape. The only less than stellar feature of the tank is its 4 ml capacity. I’d have preferred a little larger capacity to cut down on the number of refills, especially with those Tiger coils that are juice hogs.

With 200 watts of power, temperature control and two customizable TCR settings, the Spider Mod is full of features too. Those three flavor modes give you the ability to finely customize your vape experience. And that roller switch makes adjusting power or temperature and navigating the menu system very easy. I only wish Kangertech had given the Spider Mod the longer lasting 5100 mAh battery that’s in the IKEN Kit.

Quality: Kangertech has another high quality device with the Spider Kit. The Spider Mod is solid, well built and substantial. The OLED display is bright, crisp and easy to read. The Five 6 Mini Tank is even better than the original. I have had no leakage or seepage issues with the Mini. And those Tiger coils produce voluminous vapor and flavor.

Looks: The Spider Kit is an impressive looking device. The colors are rich, the finish smooth and sleek. The OLED display provides a nice contrast to the rest of the device and the triangular shape of the display and battery meter give the whole thing a balanced look.

Price/Value: Kangertech shows the Spider Kit with a list price of $73.90 but has it available now for $62.90. That price is right in line with the other kits in Kangertech’s AKD line. And given the features and performance of the Spider Kit it’s a bargain.

I’ve been using the Kangertech Spider Kit for about and have been very happy with it. I’ve vaped quite a few different flavors of ejuice in it and the Spider Kit has produced some of the best flavor I’ve ever gotten. I really like how this unit fits and feels in my hand. If you’re ready for a new mod and/or tank or you have someone on your Christmas list who vapes, the Kangertech Spider Kit would be an excellent choice.

Kangertech provided the Spider Kit I tested for the purpose of this review. Find out more about it and order one here.
