First Look: Kimsun TC40W Mini Kit

Kimsun recently released a new temperature control kit, the TC40W Mini Kit. It includes the TC40W Mini mod and the STL Tank II. Kimsun offers the two exclusively as a kit, so we’ll tackle them together in this First Look and then in a week or two, after using the Kimsun TC40W Mini Kit extensively, we’ll do an in-depth review of the kit.

The TC40W is a temperature control and variable wattage mod. It has a wattage range of 5 – 40 watts and a temperature range of 300° F – 600° F and 150° C – 315° C. It has an 1100 mAh internal battery that can be charged via the micro USB port on the bottom of the mod with the included charging cable. The Kimsun TC40W Mini can fire coils with a resistance range of 0.15 – 2.0 ohm.

The Kimsun STL Tank II has a 1.1 ml ejuice capacity. It comes with a 0.32 ohm Titanium coil installed and also a replacement coil. Kimsun says the tank has five fold seal protection to prevent leaking. The tank has two adjustable airflow ports. The STL Tank II attaches to the TC40W Mini via the 510 connector.

kimsun tc40wminikit official buttonsThe TC40W Mini has three buttons on the front of the mod, the fire button and the “+” and “-” buttons. The LED display is on the top of the mod. The title “mini” is an understatement. The kit has dimensions of 34.6 mm X 21.2 mm X 99.3 mm. It weighs in at a svelte 95 g, thanks largely to its aluminum alloy body.

Turn the mod on or off with five quick clicks of the fire button. To switch between variable wattage and temperature control modes press the fire button three quick times. The options are PPP for variable wattage, and four options of temperature control, Ti F, Ti C, Ni F, Ni C. Once you’ve reached your mode of your choice press the “+” or “-” button to select it. Adjust wattage or temperature with the “+” or “-” buttons. Wattage changes are in 0.1 watt increments and in temperature control mode it’s in single degree increments.

Kimsun STL Tank II officialTo fill the STL Tank II unscrew the top of the tank from the base. Insert the dripper or tip of the ejuice bottle into one of the two holes against the outer wall of the tank. If you’re using a new coil be sure to prime it by dripping a few drops of ejuice into the center of the coil.

When you attach a new coil to the TC40W Mini you first need to calibrate the coil resistance. Do this by holding in the “+” and “-” buttons for four seconds until the display reads “CHE”.

First Impressions

I filled the STL Tank II with Scoobie Snax ejuice from my local vape shop, Vapes Gone Wild, being sure to prime the coil and allow it to fully saturate. Then with the TC40W mod in Titanium Fahrenheit mode and the temperature set at 350° F I gave it a first vape. The vapor product was more than decent and the flavor of the ejuice was rich.

Kimsun TC40 Mini Kit with boxI increased the temperature to 375° F and the vapor production increased a little and the flavor got a little fuller. At 400° F the vapor was warmer and thicker and the flavor started to really pop.

The Kimsun TC40W Mini Kit is a powerful device in an extremely small package. I was impressed with the vapor and flavor production on this first vape, and I’m looking forward to using the kit extensively over the next week or two. Then I’ll post a full, in-depth review. If you follow Seven Report on Twitter or Facebook you’ll find out that way when that review is live.

Thanks to our friends at Kimsun for providing the TC40W Mini Kit for review.
