I lived in St. Louis for a couple of years back in the mid to late 1990s. And my brother lived there for over 20 years and I visited him and his family on a number of occasions during that time. St. Louis is great place, sports town, food town. It’s know for its toasted ravioli, Ted Drew’s Concrete, which inspired the Dairy Queen Blizzard, St. Louis style pizza from Imo’s and Gooey Butter Cake. I was friends with a guy who had a bakery, McArthur’s Bakery, and one of their specialties was Gooey Butter Cake.

The story goes that a German baker back in the 1930s mixed up the type of butter in a batch of cake batter. It was the Great Depression and back then you didn’t want to waste anything, so he baked that batter and it came out a gooey looking mess. But it tasted wonderful. And that’s how Gooey Butter Cake came to be.

Stella Blues Vapors is located in the St. Louis area. Some of my favorite ejuices have come from their Bakery line of flavors. They have a unique talent for translating the taste of baked goods to ejuice. And seeing how they’re right there in St. Louis, my expectations for their Gooey Butter Cake ejuice were pretty high.

The official description of Stella Blues Vapors Gooey Butter cake is, “Dive into the silky vape of this phenomenal bakery style eliquid! A buttery cakey tone with rich undertones of creamy custard flavors! One of the most incredible accidents ever created! In the Depression, a man accidentally switched an ingredient in his cake, and came out with a smashed gooey mess! Since it was hard times, he couldn’t waste his product, so he cut it into samples, and everyone went wild! Thus, Gooey Butter Cake was created!!”

The Numbers As Tested

Nicotine Level     24 MG
PG/VG Ratio      25/75

Stella Blues Vapors lists Gooey Butter Cake in their sub ohm line of ejuices. These ejuices are all mixed in a 25/75 PG/VG ratio and are available with a maximum nicotine level of 12 MG. The fact that the bottle I sampled had a nicotine level of 24 MG was my bad. I had neglected to tell them that I’ve cut down my nicotine level from that high 24 MG. Stella Blues Vapors is all about customer service and when they checked my file to prepare the latest batch of review product for me, they saw that I had listed my preferred nicotine level at 24 MG, so that’s what they sent. More on how that plays into this review coming up.

Gooey Butter Cake-St LouisIf you’ve never had authentic St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake you’re missing a fabulous taste treat. My friend, Randy McArthur’s bakery ships their Gooey Butter Cake just about anywhere in the country, I’ll have a link below. Or you can try Stella Blues Vapors Gooey Butter Cake ejuice, the taste is nearly identical and without all the calories and saturated fats of the actual cake.

On the inhale of Stella Blues Vapors Gooey Butter Cake there is a distinct butter flavor, silky smooth and creamy. That’s combined with the slightly sweet taste of cake. On the exhale the flavor continues to delight with a hint of custard. The vapor itself is smooth and a little warm, and there is a lot of it, no matter what you’re vaping it in. The aroma is enticing, buttery with just a hint of caramel.

The throat hit I experienced was, I believe, more intense than you’ll get, since my bottle had a nicotine level of 24 MG. Stella Blues Vapors website has a disclaimer concerning their sub ohm line of ejuices and nicotine levels, “We recommend not going over 6 MG when sub ohming any eliquid. By choosing 8 or 12 MG you acknowledge and understand that sub ohming can double or triple the amount of nicotine being absorbed, depending on the coil build.”

But since Gooey Butter Cake is a sub ohm ejuice, I just had to try it in my Kangertech Subtank Nano with the 0.5 ohm coil. I also sampled it in the Aspire Nautilus Mini with a 1.8 ohm coil. This juice was excellent in both set ups. However, the flavor really popped in the Subtank, but the throat hit was a tad harsh. In the Nautilus the butter flavor was more predominant, but the throat hit was much milder. So you can vape Gooey Butter Cake in a standard resistance tank, but to get the full flavor experience, you’ll want to sub ohm it. Just be sure to stay in single digits on that nicotine level.

Gooey Butter Cake bottleI vaped Gooey Butter Cake for two days and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a flavor you’ll enjoy any time of day in any situation. It’s especially enjoyable with a good cup of coffee.

Stella Blues Vapors offers Gooey Butter Cake, and all of their sub ohm line of ejuices, in glass dripper bottles in sizes of 15 ml for $11, 30 ml for $17 and 60 ml for $28. Available nicotine levels are from 0 to 12 MG in 2 MG increments. Stella Blues Vapors provided the bottle of Gooey Butter Cake I sampled for the purpose of this review.
