Time is a funny thing. Not funny “ha ha,” but funny strange. Technically, time is constant, each second, each minute exactly as long as the minute before it and after it. At least in the abstract. In experience it’s an entirely different story. Time is (or seems) relative. Sitting in a dentist’s chair for a teeth cleaning it feels like time stands still. Between the time the dentist says, “Open wide,” and “See you in six months,” can seem like a week. But check your watch as you leave the dentist’s office and you’ll see only an hour has passed.
It works the other way too. Pacing in the maternity ward waiting room back in May 2014, waiting for the birth of my third grandson, I had the feeling that it was only a week earlier that I was in another maternity ward waiting for my son to enter the world, instead of the 34 plus years that had actually passed. Funny how time works.
In the fast paced world of vaping innovation, time is super accelerated. For vapers with even just a few months experience it can seem like a lifetime since that last analog tobacco cigarette, years since that first basic vape set up. There can be a temptation or tendency to forget what it was like when you first started vaping, all of the questions about ejuice and tanks and batteries and mods and ohms and coils. For us vapers the question has become, “Why would anyone continue smoking and not switch to vaping?” It’s easy to forget that, for some of us at least, making the switch to vaping was full of questions and uncertainty.
That’s why I was so happy when American eLiquid Store sent a Dura True Starter Kit for me to review. When I started Seven Report my hope was (and still is) that it would be a way to help others discover the benefits and enjoyment of making the switch to vaping. The Dura True Starter Kit is aimed squarely at smokers who have been toying with the idea of quitting tobacco and starting to vape. I think they’ve hit that target pretty squarely.

Performance: This is the primary reason I began this review with my thoughts on the passage of time. If you’re an experienced vaper you’re going to think, “How much performance can you possibly expect out of a 650 mAh battery?” But if you’re just getting started the issue is whether are not this thing will provide the satisfaction you need to quit smoking. To be honest, I was slightly amazed at the performance of the Dura True Starter Kit. It does what it’s supposed to, puts out a healthy amount of vapor and fires every time you push the button.
Features: Dura True packs everything you need to start vaping. Everything. The battery, the tank, a charger and a bottle of ejuice. Open up the box, fill the tank, attach it to the battery and viola, you’re a vaper. Dura True offers the starter kit in four flavor varieties, tobacco mild (which I sampled), tobacco bold, menthol mild and menthol bold. The biggest drawback to this kit is that Dura True includes only one of everything. So when the battery needs charging, and that 650 mAh battery is going to need at least daily charging, your vaping comes to a standstill; you have to detach the tank from the battery in order to charge it and you can’t vape while the battery is charging.
Quality: The Dura True Starter Kit is a solid little device. Threading on the tank and battery work smoothly, the fire button is easy to reach and feels solid. If this was an ejuice review the Tobacco Mild flavor would get high points for taste authenticity. This really tastes like tobacco. That’s because all of Dura True’s tobacco ejuices are made from tobacco extract, it’s not tobacco flavoring added to the mix.
Looks: Put it all together and the Dura True Starter Kit is a good looking little pen mod. The black color is rich, the stainless steel components really pop against all that black of the battery and tank. It’s slim, a little shorter than an EVOD 2, easy to hold, carry and store.
Price/Value: This is where the Dura True really got it right with this Starter Kit. For those of us who’ve been vaping for a while the cost benefit of vaping is a no-brainer. But for a smoker, who can plunk down $5 or $6 and walk out of a gas station with a pack of analog smokes, spending $50 or more to get that first batch of vaping equipment can be the difference between quitting or continuing smoking. American eLiquid Store sells the Dura True Starter Kit for $19.99. That’s about the cost of 3 or 4 packs of cigarettes, and the 15 ml bottle of ejuice will last at least as long as those analog smokes. If you bought all of the items included in the kit separately it would be more than double the price, so the Dura True Starter Kit is a real value.
When I first started vaping I wanted to give myself the best chance of sticking with it, so I began with a tobacco flavored ejuice, to make that transition easier. And I think that’s one of the strengths of this starter kit. If you’re a smoker who’s been considering quitting and taking up vaping, but you just aren’t sure how to get started, I recommend you give the Dura True Starter Kit a try. And if you’re a vaper with a friend or family member you’ve been trying to persuade to try vaping, order one of these kits and give it to them.
I would make a couple of suggestions, to help ensure you or that smoking friend has the greatest chance for making the vaping switch stick. Order two kits, that way you’ll have a second battery and won’t experience any down time during charging. Even when ordering two kits the cost is less than one of the EVOD 2 kits, which come with two batteries. I’d also order a pack of coils, there’s nothing worse than having a fully charged battery and a tank full of ejuice and having your coil burn out with no replacement. If that happens to a new vaper and they have to wait for coils to arrive in the mail, the chances are pretty good that they’ll pick up another cigarette, and we want to do our best to keep that from happening.
I had a smoker who’s been considering making the switch to vaping try the Dura True Starter Kit. Full disclosure, he’s my son, Caleb. Caleb agreed to try the Dura Smoke Starter Kit for a couple of days and then come back and do an update video and let us how the kit worked out for him. He did take a couple hits on camera and seemed pretty impressed with the authenticity of the taste.
