The Pollex Mod represents a number of firsts for Kangertech. It’s their first touch screen device and the first stand alone mod to be released under the AKD (Advanced Kangertech Design) line.
The Pollex is powered by an internal 3500 mAh battery with a micro USB charging port located on the fire button side of the device. It has a wattage range of 1 – 200 watts. In temperature control (TC) mode it has a range of 100° – 315° C or 200° – 600° F. In TC mode it will operate with Nickel, Titanium or Stainless Steel coils. The Kangertech Pollex will fire coils with a resistance as low as 0.15 ohm.
Kanger gave the Pollex three operating modes, Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. Choose your desired operating mode by tapping the arrow at the bottom of the left of the touch screen. Beginner mode is simply variable wattage (VW). In Intermediate mode you can choose between VW and TC. Expert mode adds the option of using two user defined temperature or wattage curves. You can also select one of four different wallpapers in Expert mode.
Enter the menu system by tapping the gear icon at the bottom right side of the screen. The menu options available are determined by the operating mode you’ve selected. In Beginner mode your only option available menu is the Display settings. In Intermediate mode you also have Work settings, where you can choose between VW and the three types of TC coils; Power settings, which allows you to set the over time shut off, the time the screen remains illuminated and the auto shut off time, Display settings, allowing you to adjust the brightness of the display, lock the screen, power off the device and perform a factory reset; and System Info, which tells you the serial number of your Pollex, version of firmware installed and the model name, Pollex.
Expert mode allows you to access the two user defined wattage or temperature curves, M1 and M2 in the Work settings and in Display settings you can choose a wallpaper. There are several options you can choose without entering the menu system. To lock the screen you can simply press the fire button quickly three times. And to perform a factory reset use the button on the bottom of the Pollex.
Kangertech gave the Pollex Mod a 2.4” color OLED display. It will show your selected working mode, VW or TC and in TC the type of coil you’re using. It also displays your selected wattage or temperature, the operating mode, voltage, resistance of the attached coil and a battery meter. Adjust temperature or wattage by tapping the “+” or “-” signs on the display. To change your temperature scale from F to C just scroll through the tope or bottom range of one scale to get the other scale.
What’s In The Box
- 1 X Pollex Mod
- 1 X Charging cable
- 1 X Manual
Performance: I have been more than satisfied with how the Pollex performs, maybe even a little impressed. The fire button is very responsive. And I’ve been getting a pretty solid work day of vaping out of that 3500 mAh battery, even when vaping above 100 watts. The touch screen is easy to use and very responsive as well. Though I have occasionally changed my power setting inadvertently when picking up the unit, so I normally vape with the screen locked.
Features: The Kangertech Pollex Mod is loaded with features that most vapers will get a good deal of use out of, and advanced vapers will have fun adjusting those user defined temperature and wattage curves. The touch screen is the biggest feature on the Pollex, and Kangertech has made it very easy to use with an intuitive menu system.
The selectable wallpapers are another nice feature, as is the ability to reset the Pollex to factory defaults, even if the screen has totally locked up on you, a situation I have never experienced.
Quality: This is another high quality device in the AKD line of products from Kangertech. The aluminum alloy body is solid but light. The fire button works well and is recessed enough that you’re not going to be firing it accidentally or when you have it in a pocket or purse. And that big OLED display is bright, easy to see and gives you all of the information you need.
Looks: The Pollex is a very attractive mod, slim but just big enough to fit comfortably in your hand. The finish is smooth and the colors are deep and rich. Kangertech offers the Pollex in black, white, grey or blue. The touch screen is also good looking and without the need for any buttons beside the fire button, the overall look is very streamlined.
Price/Value: On the Kangertech website the Pollex is shown with a list price of $73.90 but it now shows it marked down to $62.90. But even at full list price, this is a device that is worth it. It’s max output of 200 watts, VW, TC and DIY output modes, long lasting internal battery and all of the other options available through the menu system make this a mod that will fit the need of any vaper.
I’ve been vaping with the Pollex Mod for about a month and have been more than happy with it. It’s done everything I’ve asked of it, firing every time I hit the button. And it provides hours of vaping between charging. I really like the touch screen and how light this mod feels, without feeling cheaply mod. This would be an excellent choice for a vaper of any experience level.
I’ve used the Kangertech Pollex Mod with the SMOK TFV8 tank with a variety of coils and the mod has fired everyone of them with no problem. Kangertech provided the Pollex Mod I tested for the purpose of this review.
