  • Some of the flavors are a little subdued

One of the most enjoyable aspects of vaping for me is discovering new flavors and combinations of tastes that I would have never imagined on my own. With ejuice you can blend a variety of flavors that would go terribly wrong in the kitchen. That is, if you’re imaginative enough, brave enough and skilled enough.

When I was a kid, before I developed a love for coffee, I would occasionally have a cup of tea. Most often with a little milk and a healthy dose of sugar. But once in awhile I liked a little lemon instead. One day I couldn’t decide how to take my tea, so I put all of those ingredients in my cup, first a couple of spoons of sugar, then a bit of milk and finally a few drops of lemon juice. The milk immediately curdled, sending sticky white chunks of something floating to the top of the cup. Turns out milk and lemon don’t get along all that well. Most citrus won’t mix with milk or cream, at least not in the world of food.

But the mixologists behind DuraSmoke’s premium Nine2Five line have come up with a new flavor that is at once citrusy and creamy; Day Shift. Their website says, “Do you like sunrises…in Mexico? How about a Tequila Sunrise…the drink? We’ve combined an amazing orange with a cherry and cranberry mix creating this truly unique vape. This is a sweet and tart vape and tastes great dripping or in a tank.”

The description of Day Shift on the American eLiquid Store website echoes that, but is a little different. “This vape will wake you up! A slightly sweet, clean citrus blend to give you a kick in the taste buds and get your morning moving. The primary notes are a light orange with undertones of grapefruit and lime. The sweetness is added with just a touch of cream to balance the often overly sour flavor of the citrus. This is an eliquid you will want to vape every morning!”

The Numbers As Tested

Nicotine Level     6 MG
PG/VG Ratio     Max VG

Though there are some subtle differences in those two descriptions, the main points are spot on. Day Shift is a citrus blend that isn’t too sweet or too tart. On the inhale the primary flavor is a juicy sweet orange. There are other notes in there as well, maybe a little tangy cranberry and grapefruit, and there’s just a hint of something a little sweeter, perhaps that cherry. On the exhale there’s a creamy, slightly sweet note that blends in with that orange. The overall taste is bright, fresh and clean.

nine2five Day Shift official bottleThe vapor itself is smooth and on the cool side, with a velvety texture on the finish. The throat hit is rather mild. Day Shift has a light, almost subdued aroma that’s dominated by orange with a hint of cream. While this ejuice is called Day Shift, don’t think it’s only appropriate in the morning. I vaped it for two days and found it refreshing all day. Yes, it was particularly good in the morning, but I also enjoyed it late in the afternoon, that time of day when it seems like five O’clock will never arrive.

DuraSmoke’s Nine2Five Day Shift is available online from American eLiquid Store in 15 ml glass dripper bottles for $12.99. You can choose between 0 MG, 3 MG, 6 MG, 12 MG and 18 MG of nicotine. All of the Nine2Five line come in a Max VG mix.

I vaped Day Shift in a Kangertech Subtank Plus powered by an Eleaf iStick 50 Watt. American eLiquid Store provided the bottle of Day Shift I sampled for the purpose of this review.
