First Look: SMOK TFV8 Tank

I’ve been using the SMOK TFV4 tank since November 2015. It’s one of the highest rated pieces of hardware I’ve reviewed for Seven Report. Its vapor and flavor production are as good or better than any tank I’ve used. So when DirectVapor offered to send one of the new SMOK TFV8 tanks to review, I immediately accepted.

Before going any further let me make one thing clear; the SMOK TFV8 Tank has been on the market for a few weeks now, so this is the Seven Report First Look, not the first look anyone has published on the tank. Just wanted to head off the trolls who would have commented, “First Look? This thing has been around for awhile now, what are you talking about, first look?”

SMOK TFV8 with parts labeledThe “TF” in TFV8 (and the TFV4 for that matter) stands for “Taste Furious,” and SMOK certainly got that right. They also refer to the TFV8 as “The Cloud Beast.” We’ll see about that.

SMOK packages the TFV8 with two coils and an RBA; a 0.15 ohm V8-T8 octuple (that’s 8) coil, a V8-Q4 quadruple coil and the V8 RBA with a 0.28 ohm Clapton dual coil set up installed. The V8-T8 has a wattage range of 50 – 260 watts, with a “best” range of 120 – 180 watts. SMOK recommends a range of 50 – 180 watts for the V8-Q4, with the “best” range being 90 – 150 watts.

The SMOK TFV8 has an ejuice capacity of 6.0 ml with the V8-Q4 coil installed. With either the V8-T8 coil or Turbo RBA installed that capacity drops to 5.5 ml. The top fill system on the TFV8 is similar to that of the TFV4, simply spin the top of the tank to reveal the fill slot.

SMOK TFV8 V8-T8When using a new coil SMOK recommends priming it before vaping. Place a few drops of ejuice into the center of the coil and a drop or two on the cotton visible through each ejuice flow port. Then fill the tank and allow the coil to sit and saturate for several minutes before you vape.

You adjust the airflow on the TFV8 by twisting the collar on the base to open or close the dual airflow ports till you find a setting that suits you.

I left the pre-installed V8-T8 octuple coil in the tank, priming it with NovaJuice Grahams Custard ejuice. Then I put the tank back together, attached it to a Kangertech KBOX 200 and filled it. After allowing it to sit for several minutes to fully saturate the organic cotton I set the airflow control to about half way, the KBOX 200 to 120 watts and gave the tank a first vape.

TFV8 on ModThe vapor and flavor output were very good. I then upped the wattage to 150 watts. The vapor was noticeably warmer and the flavor really popped. I then opened the airflow fully and increased power to 180 watts. Output of both flavor and power increased a good deal, and the vapor was fairly warm.

I’ll be using the SMOK TFV8 extensively over the next week or two and then posting a full, in-depth review. If you follow Seven Report on Twitter or Facebook you’ll find out that way when that post is live.
